Removing Window Tinting
Window tinting films are made of double or triple layer of polyester films. While the top layer on a applied film can come off easily the other layer simply does not come out with ease. The adhesive prevents it from coming out and usually if you try to rip off the window tinting film you end up ripping only the top layer leaving behind the other layer and a few hours of dirty work for removing the left over.
The window tinting film can be removed with ease without separation of the different layers only if we are able to soften the adhesive and slowly remove the film. This is a simple work but takes immense patience and expert hands to do the needful.
First of all you need to assemble all the required items at one place. These include a tarpaulin to cover your seats. Two big garbage bags big enough to cover the windows; ammonia, water, mob, razor blades, steel wool of the finest grade and a lot of patience.
Remove whatever is possible from the inside the vehicle. Park the vehicle in an airy and sunny place. Spray a lot of ammonia on the tinted film to be removed and cover it with one of the garbage bag so that the ammonia does not dry quickly. While the ammonia is wet, check if the adhesive has gone soft. Use a razor blade to peel one edge of the film. Then gradually and slowly keep on peeling the film taking care that the ammonia is still wet. If required spray more ammonia while peeling the film off.
The leftover adhesive can be removed using the steel wool and soap solution till the glass is absolutely clean. Necessary precaution must be observed while using ammonia.
You have for keep a lot of precautions while removing the film on your own so it is always advised to take help of professionals for removal of the film as it required an experienced hand.
